Donate This Holiday Season!

Filed under: General — Jim @ 7:54 pm

Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? Still full? Did you get up this morning to go power shopping in search of all those great bargins? Consider yourself very lucky. There are many people who would like to go shopping today but they can’t pay their rent. There are people who don’t have leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner and they are not sure when they will eat next.

It is very easy to get caught up in the excitment of 50% off at your favorite stores and forget about those less forunate. This is one of the most difficult times of the year for many individuals and families. There are people struggling with unemployment, financial hardships. An those who are alone this holiday season.

If you bought one less present today and donate the money to your favorite charity it could make the world of difference to someone this holiday season.

If you are forunate enough to go out and buy presents for your family today remember those who don’t have that luxury. Go to the store and buy a cart full for your local food shelf. Teach your children about the true meaning of Christmas by having them buy presents for Toys for Tots.

Check with your local charities about “adopting” a family this holiday season. There are many single parents who need your help. Here is one example what some single parents will do to get by. Read about one single dad who has turned to the internet commuity for help.

There is a lot you can do in the next 30 days before Christmas. Remember those who need help the most.

Garage Sale Season is Here!

Filed under: General — Jim @ 4:28 am

Now is the time to start thinking about having a garage sale. And while you are at it why not donate a portion of your sales to your favorite charity? It is a win-win. You clean house and your favorite charity gets a donation! We really need help this year in getting the word out about Garage Sales for Charity. A mere 100 garage sales per week per state has the potential to raise $1,000,000 a month for local and national charities. Money I am sure they would all appreciate especially since many charities saw a decline last year as many donations went to hurricane relief. It is a fun easy way to donate to your favorite charity. It is really a no brainer. So what are you waiting for? Sell, donate, feel good!

The Seeds are Planted

Filed under: General — Jim @ 4:01 am

Spent the day promoting Garage Sales for Charity. Issued a press release to several media sites that send it out. If my phone starts ringing I know it worked. Wrote a article and submitted it to several sites that supply free content for websites and ezines. Have been finding this is a great way to get the word out. A previous article I wrote for another site has been downloaded over 300 time. Wrote to several webmasters with garage sale sites to see if they were interested in a link exchange. Feel some of these will help bring traffice quicker than waiting for search engines. Need some good links on some high traffic sites. Any one interested please contact me. Hopefully these seeds will grow very quickly. Anyone who has interesting promotion tips, let me know.

Graphics Help Needed

Filed under: General — Jim @ 4:02 am

Looking for a volunteer graphic designer to design a cool new logo for garagesalesforcharity.org. Also need additional banners in various sizes. You will be given credit with a link to your website.

Urgent Help Needed!

Filed under: General — Jim @ 4:00 am

I am in need of a person or persons to write a script for me. I will say this up front, since garagesalesforcharity.org is about charity I am looking for someone to do this without charge. I will give credit and a link to your web site. What I need is a form that individuals could fill out with a dollar amount that they contributed and the name of the charity they gave to. That information would then need to be written to a database or two. The dollar amount would update a tote board in real time showing total amounts donated and the charity would update a list of all charities donated to. I am thinking some type of cool looking graphic similar to a counter that would display on our front page. This would save me tons of time if I didn’t have to read though emails and add up figures manually. Over the past few months I have gotten better at installing scripts and getting them to run but I am not a programer. Anyone who would like to take on this challenge, your help would be appreciated. You can email me at info@garagesalesforcharity.org Thanks!

Welcome!

Filed under: General — Jim @ 10:26 pm

Garage Sales for Charity would like to welcome you! If you would like to know what this is all about this is the place to find out. The idea popped into my head. Usually when that happens I let things rattle around awhile and then either act on them or not. This time there was no question that I had to act. Within a half hour I had the concept down and 8 hours later I had a website up and running. The idea is simple. I am here to provide ideas and promotion. How many garage and yard sales are held in the US from April-Oct? My guess is alot. And what do people usually do with the money they make? Usually they pay bills, paint the living room, maybe put it in the bank, maybe take a vacation or if they are really wild and crazy they might do something fun! But usually 2 weeks after the sale it’s “where did that money from the sale go?”
Ask any charity and they will tell you the summer months are the slowest for giving. Yet the need is still there. So what would happen if everyone who had a garage sale donated $50 or 10% of their sales to their favorite charity? How much could be raised nationwide? A million? 10 million? 50 million? I like simple math. 1,000,000 garage sales x $50 each = $50,000,000. Money the charities would otherwise never see. Could it make a difference? Ask them. So the whole concept of Garage Sales for Charity is to make people aware that if they hold a garage sale to donate to their favorite charity–the local food shelf, church, local shelter, national charities, where ever they feel it will do the most good. If you haven’t already read the main site, that explains how it all works. I like to think of this as a franchise–1,000,000 garage sales indepently owned and operated under the Garage Sales for Charity banner. This is a very simple effortless grass roots way to raise money for your favorite charity. The potential is unlimited. Saving the world one garage sale at a time.
